Physiotherapy

Low back and neck pain are the greatest cause of years lost to disability in the UK, with chronic joint pain or osteoarthritis affecting more than 8.75 million people. In addition, musculoskeletal conditions also account for 30% of all GP appointments.

All adults registered here at Bethesda Medical Centre will now be able to see a musculoskeletal first contact physiotherapist without being referred by a GP. The vast majority of musculoskeletal first contact practitioners are physiotherapists with enhanced skills. They can help patients with musculoskeletal issues such as back, neck and joint pain by:

  • Assessing and diagnosing issues.
  • Giving expert advice on how best to manage their conditions.
  • Referring them onto specialist services if necessary.
  • Patients with back and joint pain, including conditions such as arthritis, will now be able to book an appointment directly via our Reception Team, rather than waiting to see a GP or being referred to hospital.

By making it easier for patients to access physiotherapist, patients will have quicker access to diagnosis and treatment, helping them to manage their conditions more effectively and recover faster, so they can get back to normal life quickly”.

We also offer Physiotherapy as a private medical service with Mr Bodimaluwe Seneviratni (Sene) who is a qualified Physiotherapist and a member of the Health Professions Council (HPC) Chartered Society of Physiotherapy Organisation for Chartered Physiotherapists in Private practice and the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists. He is a specialist in treating orthopaedic (and trauma) conditions, musculoskeletal and sports injuries and acupuncture for pain relief. Charges apply for this private service.

Respiratory (Asthma and COPD)

Asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) assessments are made by a practice nurse, as well as lung function screening, education and inhaler techniques being taught.

To be assessed you must be referred by your own doctor.

Smoking Cessation Programmes

We no longer hold Smoking Cessation clinics here at Bethesda, however, there are local stop-smoking services which are completely free, and friendly and can massively boost your chances of quitting for good.

These services staffed by expert advisers provide a range of proven methods to help you quit. They'll give you accurate information and advice, as well as professional support, during the first few months you stop smoking.

They also make it easy and affordable for you to get stop-smoking treatments, such as nicotine replacement therapy or bupropion (Zyban).
